以現在的科技，人類要潛入水底只能仰賴笨重的氧氣筒與面罩，以後則可能不需要了！南丹麥大學（University of Southern Denmark）研發出一種「水行俠水晶」（Aquaman Crystal），可以吸收周圍氧氣並儲存，提供給潛水者維持呼吸。

這種水晶比起氧氣筒更能儲存高濃度的氧氣，而且更輕便好攜帶。研究者麥肯錫教授（Christine McKenzie）指出這種物質也適用於肺癌患者，讓他們行動不用帶著巨大的氧氣筒。而對於潛水者來說也是福音，小小一粒的水晶就可以吸收周圍的氧氣，維繫潛水者的正常呼吸。

「水行俠水晶」的名字起源於DC漫畫中能在水中呼吸的人物，它是一種結合鈷元素的有機分子，鈷讓分子與其電子結構可以吸收周遭的氧氣。科學家還在研究是否能用光線來觸發它釋放氧氣，但現階段受限於複雜的化學方程式，還未能將這種物質大量合成使用，大約一桶的水晶（約10公升）才能吸收一整個房間的氧氣。
